The beautiful scents of spring are in the air, as are the aromas from the kitchen at 91影视. Five culinary classes will begin in April through the Workforce Continuing Education department. Learn to create an epic charcuterie board, jams to impress, or bread of all kinds. Bake like a pro in the Bento Cake or Pattern Swiss Roll Cake class. No matter which courses you choose, your kitchen will be more fragrant than blooming wisteria.
In 鈥淏reads for the Home Baker,鈥 students will learn how to bake like a pro in a home kitchen. Chef Brunner will share soft rolls, focaccia, and polish based French bread recipes and explain tricks to achieve great results using basic kitchen equipment. You will learn proper mixing, shaping, and baking techniques along with how to create a preferment for extra flavor in bread. Held on Friday, April 28, from 3-6 pm, this class will cost $75.
鈥淐harcuterie Boards鈥 is a hands-on class that will explain the step-by-step process of making beautiful Charcuterie Boards for any occasion. Each student will take home their one-of-a-kind creation. Held on Tuesday, April 4, from 5:30-7:30 pm, this class will cost $75.
鈥淛ams and Canning鈥 will prepare students for canning season with a hands-on lesson in jam making and water bath canning. Learn proper canning techniques while making your own sweet and savory jams. Students will take home recipes and jam. Held on Tuesday, April 18, from 5:30-7:30 pm, this class will cost $75.
In 鈥淧attern Swiss Roll Cake,鈥 you will learn how to transform a regular Swiss roll cake into something amazing. You will learn how to pipe a beautiful pattern visible on the outside of your cake after being baked. Held on Tuesday, April 17, from 5:30-7:30 pm, this class will cost $75.
鈥淏ento Cake鈥 will teach students how to make a bento cake, also known as a lunchbox cake. The cakes are roughly two inches by four inches. Each student will make three cakes: vanilla, chocolate, and chocolate chip. These cakes are the perfect size for a delicious surprise in your lunchbox. Held on Wednesday, April 26, from 5:30-7:30 pm, this class will cost $75.
Registration
Seats are still available for these Continuing Education classes and do not require an application. To register, call Continuing Education at (910) 695-3980 between 8 am and 5 pm Mondays through Thursdays and 8 am-Noon on Fridays. All major credit cards are accepted. Summer Semester
Summer semester curriculum (college credit) Sessions A and B begin on May 23, and Session C starts on June 27. Workforce Continuing Education classes begin on various dates throughout the summer.
Summer semester curriculum classes are open to current, returning, and new students. Local students attending colleges outside of the area are welcome to take courses this summer at SCC. Credits can transfer back to the university, saving students time and money. New students can apply online, and an advisor will assist in registering for classes. Boys & Girls Club
Sandhills is now the location of a new Boys & Girls Club. Summer camp will run June 19 thru August 11 from 7:45 am 鈥 5:45 pm for rising first graders through rising sixth graders. Early drop-off services are available. The cost is $140 per child and covers the entire summer. Registration is open from April 10-14, and you can register your child at sandhillsbgc.org.
In addition, drop-in services will be available free of charge to Sandhills students from 6鈥9 pm. This is ideal for students taking evening classes, working on group projects, or for other academic reasons. CCP Classes for High School Students
Moore and Hoke County High School students can take classes at SCC as juniors and seniors. Those completing the required number of CCP credits qualify for the Sandhills Promise.
