You'll think you've won a pot of gold after taking a 91Ó°ÊÓ Workforce Continuing Education class. Boost your job skills by becoming a certified vehicle inspector, forklift operator, public notary, or take a refresher course for your vehicle dealership. After one of these classes in March, you won't need luck. Your skills will speak for themselves and show you the green.

Transportation

"Auto Safety Inspection" certifies students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles Safety Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is a valid driver’s license. Held Monday and Thursday, March 11 and 12, from 6-10 pm, this class will cost $75.

"Vehicle Dealers’ Continuing Education" is required of all non-franchise vehicle dealers in NC. Class will include updates of NC general statutes and DMV policies and procedures. Held Tuesday, March 5, from 9am-4 pm, this class will cost $75.

Business

"Notary Public" is required for anyone interested in becoming a Notary Public for the first time. It is recommended for all notaries as a refresher course. It is strongly recommended that you study the guidebook before class to better prepare for the state examination at the end of the class. Note: The current edition of The Notary Public Manual for North Carolina, March 2016, ISBN: 978-1-56011-851-0, is required for admittance to the class and can be purchased at the SCC bookstore or on Amazon. It is strongly recommended that you study the guidebook prior to class attendance to be better prepared for the state examination given at the end of the class.

NCGS 10B-5(b) provides the following requirements to be commissioned as a Notary Public in NC: 1) Be at least 18 years of age or legally emancipated as defined in Article 35 of Chapter 7B of the General Statutes; 2) Reside or have a regular place of work or business in this state; 3) Reside legally in the United States; 4) Speak, read, and write the English language; 5) Possess a high school diploma or equivalent; 6) Pass the course of instruction described in this Article unless the person is a licensed member of the North Carolina State Bar; 7) Purchase and keep as a reference the most recent manual approved by the Secretary that describes the duties and authority of notaries public; 8) Submit an application containing no significant misstatement or omission of fact. Students must provide current state or federal picture identification for admission to class. Active-duty military and civilian I.D. cards do not meet the identification requirement.

"Notary Public" will be held on Tuesday, March 19, from 8 am-6 pm; this class will cost $75 plus the cost of the text. 

Construction

In "Forklift Operator," you will earn the National Safety Council’s (NSC) lift truck operator certification by successfully completing this class. Minimum age is 18. Text: NSC Lift Truck Operator, by National Safety Council ISBN: 2818440022999. Held Wednesday and Thursday, March 27 and 28, from 8:30 am-4 pm on the 27th and 8 am-noon on the 28th, this class will cost $77.50 plus the cost of the text.

Spring 8-Week Session

Continuing Education classes begin throughout the semester. New and returning students do not need to apply to the College; simply register for classes. The spring 8-week session of curriculum classes begins March 11. For all information, go to www.sandhills.edu/learn.

New students taking curriculum/college credit classes must apply before registering. Sandhills has an open-door policy, which means all applicants are accepted. On www.sandhills.edu, new students can find the application at the top right. Returning or current students can register by using Self-Service located on 91Ó°ÊÓ. 

Boys & Girls Club

A Boys & Girls Club unit is offered on the Sandhills campus. It runs from 2:30 to 6:30 pm for kindergarten through fifth grade. The club is ideal for parents/guardians taking SCC afternoon or evening classes, those who need study time, need to utilize the computer lab, or work on projects. Club participants will receive homework assistance, and dinner is offered. The cost is $40 per child per year. The club provides transportation from McDeeds Creek, Farm Life, and Carthage Elementary schools.

In addition, drop-in services are available free of charge to Sandhills students from 6-9 pm. This is ideal for students taking afternoon or evening classes, working on group projects, or for other academic reasons.
