Transportation
In "Auto Safety Inspection," students will be certified to inspect motor vehicles under the N.C. Motor Vehicles Safety Inspection Law. You must have a valid driver's license for this class. Held Monday and Tuesday, October 9 and 10, from 6–10 pm, this class will cost $75.
“CDL Truck Driver Training" provides students with comprehensive training via classroom instruction, range driving, and road driving. By the end of the 10-week training course, students will earn their CDL learner's permit, then move on to the hands-on training and theory to prepare them for the Class A Commercial Driver's License endorsement. Held Monday-Friday, October 2-December 22, from 8 am- 5 pm, the class registration fee is $364.60 + the cost of the permit exam at the DMV. Scholarships are available for enrolled students.
"OBD Emissions Control Inspection" certifies students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles OBD Emissions Control Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is "Certified Auto Safety Inspection." This is also a recertification class. Held Monday and Tuesday, October 16 and 17, from 6–10 pm, this class will cost $75.
"FAA Remote Drone Pilot" prepares students for the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot certification exam. Topics include flight theory, flight operations, flight training, national air space, and weather. Upon completion, students will be prepared to sit for the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Knowledge Test and NCDOT UAS Operator Permit. The classroom portion will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from October 3-November 7 from 6:30-8:30 pm. The flying portion will be held on Saturday, October 14 and 28, from 10 am-2:30 pm. This class will cost $130 plus the cost of the text. There will be no class on October 31.
Business
"Real Estate Post-Licensing 302 Contracts and Closings" will cover topics including selected basic contract law concepts, real estate sales contract preparation, sales contract procedures, buyer's due diligence, closing procedures, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, closing disclosure preparation, contracts for deed, options, and selected real estate license status and education issues. Held Monday-Thursday October 9-12 from 8:30 am-12:30 pm and October 16-19 from 8:30 am-noon, this class will cost $130 plus the cost of the text.
Construction
"General Contractors Update & C.E. Classes" provides General Contractors the necessary 8 hours of Continuing Education required to renew their licenses each year." Held Saturday, October 14, from 8 am-5 pm, this class will cost $110.
Public Safety
"CPR for Healthcare Providers" is for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR and other lifesaving skills in various in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. Held on Saturday, October 21, from 8:30 am-12:30 pm, this class will cost $50 plus a $5 card fee.
"NC Extrication School" offers Advanced Hands-On Practicals Training focused on the best practices, up-to-date techniques, and latest equipment available to prepare first responders for a wide range of extrication scenarios. This class will be held Friday-Sunday, October 20-22, from 8 am-6 pm.
In "Hazardous Materials Operations," students will receive the Hazardous Materials Operations Fire and Rescue Commission IFSAC Certification upon successful completion. This class will be held Tuesday-Friday, October 10-13, from 8 am-6 pm.
Registration
Seats are still available for these Workforce Continuing Education classes and do not require an application. To register, call Continuing Education at (910) 695-3980 between 8 am and 5 pm Mondays through Thursdays and 8 am-noon on Fridays. All major credit cards are accepted. Pre-register at sandhills.edu/wce/cereg.html. Pre-registration must be made two days before the start date of the class.
Next Session
Continuing Education classes begin throughout the semester. New and returning students do not need to apply to the College, simply register for class.
An eight-week session of fall semester curriculum classes begins on October 11. Offered online and in hybrid class formats, classes take only eight weeks to complete and award full credits. For all information, go to www.sandhills.edu/learn.
New students taking curriculum/college credit classes must apply before registering. Sandhills has an open-door policy, which means all applicants are accepted. On www.sandhills.edu, new students can find the application at the top right. Returning or current students can register by using Self-Service located on 91Ó°ÊÓ.
Boys & Girls Club
A Boys & Girls Club unit is offered on the Sandhills campus. It runs from 2:30 to 6:30 pm for kindergarten through fifth grade. The club is ideal for parents/guardians taking SCC afternoon or evening classes, those who need study time, need to utilize the computer lab, or work on projects. Club participants will receive homework assistance, and dinner is offered. The cost is $40 per child per year. The club provides transportation from McDeeds Creek, Farm Life, and Carthage Elementary schools.
In addition, drop-in services are available free of charge to Sandhills students from 6-9 pm. This is ideal for students taking afternoon or evening classes, working on group projects, or for other academic reasons. Classes for High School Students
Moore and Hoke County High School students can take SCC classes as juniors and seniors at no cost. High school counselors can help schedule these classes or home or private school students can contact Kim McMillan at mcmillank@sandhills.edu.
Students who reside in Moore and Hoke Counties and successfully complete the required number of classes through Sandhills while in high school can qualify to receive two full years of paid tuition through our Sandhills Promise program. Sandhills awards over $350,000 to pay tuition and fees for Sandhills Promise students each year. The Sandhills Promise applications are due each year by mid-July.
